Description | Old plates, all marked "Pergolesi," and found in Naples, Italy, provided the source of this pattern. It seems certain that it came from the hand of Michael Angelo Pergolesi, an Italian decorative artist of the Eighteenth Century. Pergolesi was attracted to England by Robert Adam and most of his work was done there. He is renowned for his graceful designs painted on satinwood furniture made by the Adam Brothers. It is interesting to note the marked similarity of this useful pattern to the style of Genoese velvet. |
