Description | The Merriam Homestead in Walpole, New Hampshire, was the source of this interesting architectural reproduction. It adorned the hallway walls of a large farm house built in 1782. The builder, John Merriam, left Littleton, Massachusetts, to take advantage of a fifty acre land grant by the state of New Hampshire. He had just completed service in the Revolutionary War where, history relates, he once received seven bullet holes in his trousers without injury to himself. This beautiful, octagonal design was undoubtedly imported from England and hung by Merriam's son during the Early Victorian Period. |
